Pick up a monogrammed Judith Leiber clutch at Evoluzione’s trunk show
HE ‘Queen of Clutches’ is back in Chennai with a special trunk show this weekend. The favourite of America’s first ladies, fashionistas and celebrities the world over, the team behind Judith Leiber Couture in India are thrilled to bring down their latest collection from the timeless brand. “We had such a phenomenal response at our first show in Chennai (2013), that we’ve been dying to come back ever since,” enthuses Mumbai-based Varsha Ahuja, the India brand manager. “Our first interaction with our Chennai clients was at The Leela Palace and we know Evoluzione is the perfect platform for our next visit,” she adds. Tina Malhotra, founder-director of Evoluzione, agrees, stating, “We are delighted to host Judith Leiber Couture! A Judith Leiber clutch is an heirloom piece of art that is to be treasured.”
Keep it classic
The Hungary-born designer’s crystal minaudieres and evening bags are coveted and cherished. Sculpted in wax and cast in brass hardware, the brand’s iconic designs (such as the Ganesha and Sarah Jessica Parker’s cupcake bags) are synonymous with both style and status. Global fans of JLC include entertainers Jennifer Lopez and Katy Perry, actors Freida Pinto and Kate Hudson and first ladies Jackie Kennedy, Barbara and Laura Bush. Indian supporters include Aishwarya Rai, Sonam Kapoor and Neeta Ambani. At 94, the Jewish designer and Holocaust survivor has retired, with the creative reins being taken over by award-winning Jana Matheson, who has introduced quirky motifs to their design repertoire. “Our best-selling clutches, however, remain the classic crystal box clutches. These elegant pieces are handed down from mother to daughter and are often gifted as part of a bride’s trousseau.” says Ahuja.
The brand has had a positive experience ever since they opened their first store in Delhi, in 2006. “The Ganesha crystal evening bag is still on a waiting list! Our Chennai clients often stop by our Delhi and Mumbai stores with JLC bags they have picked up abroad which shows how they value these bags. They know that a Judith Leiber Couture clutch is a celebratory bag that makes you feel like you have arrived,” Ahuja adds. She recommends clutches from the ‘Monogram’ collection where one can choose a unique colour palette and have one’s initials monogrammed on it. Also look out for their limited-edition pieces, like the Gold Rose.
