Culinary artisans take centrestage on this new website
Founded by self-confessed foodies Diksha Jain and Sowmya Parthasarathy, their website FoodTribe.in is your go-to spot for artisan food that includes cakes, pickles and bread. “We are from foodie families with Mothers who are great cooks. We always used to wait for someone to get us some goodies from them. The joy of unraveling layers of paper to get our hands on that achar or mattri is unexplainable,” begins Jain, adding that succumbing to the bottled-sauces-and-pasta dinners when pre-occupied with work also lead them to set up FoodTribe.in.
In addition to craft breads, salad dressings, spices and masalas, they also have a listings section if you want to adverstise a food workshop. But it was the Binge Box section that caught our eye. It comprises a specially crafted selection of food by home chefs across the country. “It is an assortment of food made by artisans and also features a guest artisan from outside Bangalore every month,” shares Parthasarathy, adding that it is also a great gifting option. Cheesy garlic rolls, cauliflower, carrot and turnip pickles, cheesy spinach and corn muffins, anyone?
Telling us about their choice of artisan food, Parthasarathy explains that ‘original, fresh and innovative’ is how food should be. “It is not just about the end product but also includes the knowledge of making that food. It is about the entire process from selecting your ingredients, caring about the process involved to the finished product,” she says of their 100 per cent preservative- free food. There is more good news as the ladies hope to replicate the format across various cities and bring in celebrity chefs to sell their own line of products.
