CCI brings together sustainable and edgy handicrafts from across the country
Close on the heels of the opening of their first store in the city, the Crafts Council of India is ready with the third edition of their annual Crafterprenuer exhibition this weekend. This time, catch a unique range of handcrafted lifestyle products exclusive to the three-day show at the Lalit Kala Akademi. ai???The exhibition is not only about how handmade products find relevance in the modern context but about the inventiveness and ingenuity of the designers,ai??? says Gita Ram, chairperson of the CCI. Featuring 21 designers, look out for handmade paper products from Papyra, handwoven woollens from Leh-based Fayakun design Studio, and thathera craft from The Design Studio from Jaipur.
Among the first-timers are Jaipur-based designer couple Aarushi and Arpan Patel of Studio Kassa. ai???All our products are made from scrap. We use industrial metal pipes, glass chunks and brass metal sheets used in a dye press,ai??? says the 29-year-old Arpan. Expect chunky brass jewellery with charcoal and resin nuggets in shades of silver and gold, besides waterproof wallets, handbags and backpacks. Rs 350 onwards.
Drawing from Japanese pottery techniques of Nerikomi, this Gujarat-based design house offers jewellery, planters and crockery in animal motifs. ai???Unlike most crockery that is made of bone china or porcelain, we prefer to use clay that gives our ware an earthy feel,ai??? says co-founder Titas Ganguly. In the market since 2000, their trademark palette is blue and brown.
