A popular vineyard provides a platform for musicians through
Making their foray into the world of live music, Sula Vineyards starts Sula Sessions in collaboration with Asahi, Japan’s first dry beer. The aim of these sessions is to serve as a platform for fine but lesser known artistes. The sessions are going to be launched simultaneously across Pune and Bangalore. Shraddha Nathani, AVP, Sula Vineyards says that they’ve curated the top bands from the past eight years, and with Ryan Sadri of New Clear Ideas, a marketing consultancy from Mumbai, they have come up with a line-up of bands across multiple genres. “We want these live music nights to bring together music lovers, wine enthusiasts and gourmands from all walks of life to create a synergy that will make way for exciting collaborations,” shares Nathani, and kick-starting the efforts in the city, Kanchan Daniel and the Beards will take the stage at The Humming Tree. Specialising in blues, they also bring in other influences including R&B, soul, funk and psychedelic rock to form a free flowing stream of sound. Lead singer Daniel takes us back stage.
More on your unique sound.
What makes us different is that we have incorporated a lot of rock. While we still play the blues, we play it our way. It comes to us very naturally because it is very real and comes straight from the heart. But you will find strains of BB King, Michael Landau, Led Zepplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Beth Hart, Etta James, Buddy Guy and Joe Bonamassa.
Your journey to now.
When we started off it was because we loved playing music together. Slowly, familiar faces started showing up for gigs and before we knew it, we had a fan following. That encouraged us to make more diverse music. And then good luck came knocking and we had a chance to play at festivals like Ragasthan and The New Wave festival. We got featured on various TV shows like Vh1 Music Diaries and Balcony TV.
Tell us about your album.
Our debut album is a compilation of seven of our favorite tracks. We’ve put a lot of work into making them and getting the right vibe. Songs to watch out for are Blackheart, Tick Tock and Superficial.
A stage you call home…
We love playing at blueFrog and Hard Rock Cafe. Since we’ve played there ample times, we feel comfortable. But the dream is to headline at the Mahindra Blues Festival. Right now we are looking forward to playing at Zero festival, MAD and NH7. Hopefully things will work out.
What can we expect from the gig?
The energy is going to be through the roof. We are looking forward to playing two new songs and are very excited about the same. Come listen because in a world of technicolour, we play the blues.
Free event. At The Humming Tree, Indiranagar. Details: 9886618386
