At the city’s first wellness conclave, speakers like Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi give you tips and solutions to lead a healthy life
CONNECTING our unhealthy lifestyle to the many non-communicable diseases (that kill 16 million people globally each year, according to the World Health Organization), wellness expert and gynaecologist, Dr Renuka David, launches a first-of-its-kind wellness conclave in the city. “People are falling prey to diseases like cancer, diabetes and hypertension. As doctors, we wait for people to fall ill; but why don’t we change that? My aim is to create awareness to lead a healthy life,” says David, who has been planning the conclave for two years.
On the first day (tomorrow) of the two-day conclave—organised by The Radiant Group—you can expect inspirational talks by speakers like bilateral amputee Malvika Iyer, cancer survivor Neerja Malik and others. Theatre personality and actress Nandita Das will be part of a panel discussion about breaking beauty stereotypes. There will also be discussions on balancing work and life by Sathish Jeyaraman, head of the HR at Cognizant Technology Solutions. Day two (August 29) will see lyricist-scriptwriter Javed Akhtar and actress Shabana Azmi also speaking about work-life balance, besides talks by leading doctors and entrepreneurs from the city.
David stresses that participants will get an opportunity to interact with the speakers and address their fears and doubts. They will also create a forum so people can write to the experts and, if need be, she promises future “workshops and counselling sessions.”
