Why you should sign up for Adventure N Nature’s four-day camp to Pulicat
Camping season is here. What with the North-East monsoon expected to hit our shores by the first week of October and birding season also about to start. But these are not the only two reasons that Dipankar Ghosh, the director of Adventure N Nature, states to justify a trip to the Pulicat lake. “The Ennore Creek bridge that opened recently makes it just a 90 minute drive from Marina, while by sea it’s about two and a half hours in moderate wind,” he says, explaining that formerly, one had to take an hour-and-half-long drive via Ponneri to get to the island by road.
In addition to the scenic trip to Pulicat (by road or boat), Adventure N Nature offers you four days of sightseeing, adventure sports, bird watching, coastal cuisine and camp fires, during the first week of October.
The 400-year-old Chintamani temple, Ennore port, L&T shipyard and the Pulicat township are among the sights to see, while at the Adventure N Nature camp site, towards the south of the 21km island stretch, camp fires, volleyball sessions, beach combing (fear not, the beach at Pulicat is not as polluted as the Marina) and seafood prepared by the resident cooks, await. And if you are not so confident about camping in the wilderness with just a tent and inflatable bed at your disposal, Ghosh, who has been conducting these for over 30 years, assures that you have nothing to fear. “It is a self sustained camp with first aid and medical needs taken care of. And we never do a camp in bad weather — especially lightning,” he insists.
The Dairiyam Adventure Camp is from October 2-5, at `3,750 per adult camper and `3,250 per child below 13. Details: 9904355521
