Channel tropical beauty with Nicobar by Good Earth.
THE Mumbai-based brand, Nicobar takes its inspiration from its namesake island — channeling a tropical vibe throughout its collection. While its sister label, Good Earth is geared more towards luxury and occasion wear, Nicobar that was launched in March this year, focuses on everyday luxury, explains design head (clothing), Aparna Chandra. “Quite simply, it’s fuss free and stylish, all at the same time,” says Chandra, who has in the past worked with fashion photographer Prabuddha Dasgupta, and even had an eponymous label, which she shut down a little over a decade ago.
Their first collection, currently available, is largely monochromatic with bursts of bright fuchsia, lemon, and sunshine yellow. Floral patterns, stripes and polka dot prints too make their way onto racer back and wrap dresses, kimono and crop tops, apart from slouchy trousers, culottes, shorts and skirts. “The fabrics we use are all 100 per cent natural. So expect various types of cotton, linen, and silk,” shares Chandra. Right from it’s flouncy overlay jacket in white with a single button closure, made from khadi, the looks are very boho and contemporary. For men, the range of kurtas, shirts and trousers is limited and basic. They also have a special travel section that includes overlays, bags and packing essentials, and a home decor section that boasts stone, slate, marble and glassware, besides bed and table linen. Having opened one store in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai and launched their online store, Nicobar next plans to set up shop in Delhi by the end of the month.
