Spruce up the home with Japanese-inspired accessories from Taamaa this weekend

DELHI-BASED Parminder Pal Singh offers equal parts contemporary and luxe for your homes, this Sunday. His lifestyle brand Taamaa offers an eclectic range of polished metal products that are functional but with a cultural twist. You will find accessories like coffee mugs, small piggy banks, paper weights, board games and flamingo sculptures. “Taamaa caters to large homes and apartments that require mobile accessories,” says Singh, who created the line five years ago, engaging the Made in India concept in terms of design and quality. Meanwhile, his Madheke celebrates opulence, via bespoke furniture and accessories. Amethyst, where the show is taking place, is a great setting for sculptures like birds of paradise and flamingoes, functional products like candle holders and jewellery boxes, stationery from Taamaa and chairs and tables from Madheke. “Madheke products can be customised, in select cases,” says Singh. Though they had a test run in May to see how people would accept it, this is the first time that Taamaa and Madheke products will be showcased in Chennai. While Taamaa is a Japanese word which means soul, the name Madheke has an emotional connect for Singh as it is the name of his village in Punjab. “For Taamaa we borrowed a lot from the Japanese culture in terms of simplicity and treatment of products because we believe in minimal detailing and chic designs,” says Singh. His role in design for the past 20 years has seen Singh work with international brands like Ralph Lauren, Luxury Moro Brown_Side Table_MadhekeLiving, Armani Casa and Oscar De La Renta. “The challenging part was showcasing our products in stores,” he says, adding, “But presently, the market has matured, and after retailing at House of Things and IndieLust, I am confident I can find more places like these.” Being one of the few brands that work with all types of materials from metal and mirror to wood and leather, Taamaa has five different outlets in Delhi, and retails in Kolkata and Mumbai with exhibitions in Chennai. Also, in the next two months, Singh plans to take it to Bangalore and Pune. He also hopes to launch his collection in New York early next year
