Hyderabad’s Shilpa Reddy says she always has a separate collection for this city

At the Gionee India Beach Fashion Week in Goa, Hyderabad-based designer Shilpa Reddy is showing her resort wear collection that is inspired by the colours and fluidity of the sleepless oceans. “I have used fabrics such as organza, chiffon, and chanderi for the collection. This is also the first time I’ve created something this feminine. Since the theme is destination weddings, I wanted to use fabrics that are light, easy to handle, and romantic,” she says.SHILPAREDDY1
Speaking of her hometown’s interest in fashion, Reddy says, “They are big spenders, but people here spend more on the traditional attire for weddings and other festivities.” Therefore, Reddy often makes changes to her collections that she showcases in some of the leading events elsewhere in the country.
“What I design for Hyderabad is very different from what I show in Mumbai. I create different necklines, and even the mid riffs are not the same. Keeping the customer in mind, the Goa collection can easily be manipulated with longer skirts,” she explains.
Nowadays however, for mehendi, sangeet or even cocktail parties, the fashionistas of Hyderabad are experimenting with western gowns. “That is mostly restricted to the elite population,” she adds.
