Get real time location updates of friends through ReachingSoon.
Joining the ranks of US-based tracking tools Glympse and Life360 on the Play Store, ReachingSoon is an Android app, launched by Bengaluru-based brother duo, Niranjan and Gaurang Kanvinde. It lets you track the location of your family, friends or acquaintances in real time, and vice-versa, with details about the Expected Time of Arrival (ETA). Thankfully the app works even when only one of the parties (sender and receiver) downloads the app. What’s required then is that the GPS and data connection should be active.
Niranjan breaks down the process, “Let’s assume you are heading home and want to keep your brother informed about your whereabouts. Through the app, you can send your location and destination to him either on his WhatsApp, SMS inbox, or email accounts in case he hasn’t downloaded the app. Much on the lines of cab-sharing apps like Uber or Ola, he can see your movements and ETA, and in case he is also heading home, you can see the same details about him too.” In the coming months, the duo wants to roll out an iOS version, a panic button, and pre-defined contact lists for emergency.
The number of downloads (400-plus since April-end launch) are a little low, but Niranjan explains, “So far, our focus has been on college students, who sometimes see it as an intrusion to their privacy. We understand them. But being a parent of a nine-year-old daughter, I think it’s good to be cautious.”
