Ladies, the makeup gods have finally relented. Sephora, the makeup and beauty giant that started off in Paris in the 1970s, is finally debuting in Bengaluru. Come March 5, a 3,000 sq ft store at Koramangala is all set to be the brand’s first home in the city. To get your curiosity sufficiently piqued before the big weekend launch, we dug up a few details.
Under one roof
The world over, Sephora has come to be known as a one-stop-shop for makeup, skincare, fragrance, men’s grooming products, and accessories, which is amply proved by the 13 million plus followers on Facebook! They are renowned for their ‘try then buy’ approach and their stores usually boast easy accessibility, where you can find your way around products easily. The layout also includes a beauty bar where professional makeup artists will spruce you up and help you choose the right products. It’s this easy, attractive shopping experience that’s been replicated at their first store in Bengaluru.
Let’s start name-dropping now. Sephora is bringing 25 exclusive brands to the Indian market. The roll call includes names like Stila, Make Up For Ever, NYX, Burt’s Bees, Benefit, Boscia, and Alterna. There’s also Sephora’s own line of makeup and the must-haves include their 8 Hour Mattifying Compact Found-ation, Color Reveal Lip Balm, and their Outrageous Curl Mascara. Well-known brands like Lancome, Estee Lauder and Elizabeth Arden are also setting up shop. And for the ultimate splurge, there’s Tom Ford and Michael Kors. Under the fragrance section, you’ll find everything from Dior to Hermes and Chanel.
Traditionally, India’s makeup purchases have been restricted to lip and nail products. But the past few years have witnessed India’s rising interest in eye and face makeup goodies, like the rest of the world. To egg on this budding love, Sephora looks to host specials every month starting off with a ‘Nude Action’ campaign (see box for more details).
With plans of another store at Orion Mall in about a month’s time, keep a watch for the free samples during promotions. A loyalty programme and gift cards are also going to be launched soon. And this is apart from the 15 other stores that they plan to launch in the next five years in India’s top cities, including Chennai. But if you have your eyes on the Estee Edit range, including Beam Team, you’ll simply have to wait till 2017 for it to launch in India.
From Kate Winslet to Priyanka Chopra’s after party look, understated yet luminous is what everyone favoured at the Oscars. If you are looking to perfect the nude makeup code, head to Sephora where professionals will show you how to master it with a Nude Matte, Nude Glowy or Nude Sculpted finish. You can also pick up packaged products, from specific brands, that will help you achieve the look and get you red carpet ready.
Rs 500 onwards. At Forum Mall, Bengaluru .
