Showcasing diamond jadau, Mughal-inspired jackets and more, Vimonisha is back
IF you need a break from mid-week blues, head to the Vimonisha exhibit this Wednesday and Thursday. Turning 25 this year, Vimonishaa��s Private Collection, being held at the Hyatt Regency, will showcase jewellery, designs from the loom and fusion wear. Herea��s a peak at whata��s in store.
Seams by Sajeda Lehry: A Mumbai-based brand of fusion clothing, it was started by Sajeda Lehry a year ago. Showcasing for the first time with Vimonisha, and in Chennai, Lehry plans to bring garments in georgette, chiffon and crepe. With a diploma in fashion design from SNDP, Mumbai, she worked with the brand Chemistry and an export house before launching her own brand in 2013. Specialising in Indo-Western wear, the collection at Vimonisha will feature dresses, tunics, gowns, anarkalis and salwar suits in colours like coral, blue, lime green, white and peach. Expect outfits with ombre effect, zardozi, lace and threadwork. a�?I wanted to keep the line simple,a�? Lehry says. Maati Crafts: This Mumbai-based brand promotes handlooms and handicrafts. It was started six years ago by Anita Chandramohan, an architect, and Jayashree Krishnan, a chartered accountant. They have been promoting Indian arts like ajrakh, bagroo, ikat and kalamkari since 2006. The duo met while working with artisans, helping them reach mainstream markets, and started Maati Crafts in 2009. a�?We have been encouraging artisans to make wearable designs so that they can be assimilated into everyday lives,a�? Krishnan says. At Vimonisha, they will be showcasing Mughal-inspired anarkalis, jackets and palazzos in cotton, in shades like indigo and ivory. They are working closely with Savhna a group from Udaipur known for hand embroidery, and Khamir from Bhuj, known for mashru weaving. Their products are available at Sangini. Rs.1,500 onwards. Vasundhara Fine Jewellery: This Kolkata-based jewellery brand was started by Prabha Bajoria and Neelam Sonthalia about 12 years ago. Specialising in diamond jadau, they are also known for their moti puwai or art of stitching pearls. Having showcased in Chennai seven years ago, they plan to bring a mix of modern and traditional piecesa�� chandbalis, naths, rings, bridal sets and morea��featuring diamonds, South sea pearls, emeralds and rubies.
