Actor YashpalAShamra on his role inANeeli Chattri WaleAand the genresAhe prefers

Having essayed several negativeAand grey roles on the big screen,Yashpal Sharma will now beAseen playing a harried
Bhagwan Das, in a new show,ANeeli Chattri Wale, on ZeeATV. a?I am taunted either byAmy father or wife or children.AI am this kind-heartedAperson but no one realisesAthat. I do not believe inAGod but I visit temples andArecite prayers to keep myAfamily happy. I have anAencounter with God and then thingsAchange,a? says the actor, 47, who wasAnoticed for his roles in movies likeALagaan, Gangaajal, Ab TakAChhappan and Rowdy Rathore.

Relating to the character in real life,Ahe says, a?I am like Das. I believeAthere is a superior power but I don’tAgo to temples and pray all the time.a?AMovie vs televisionAInspired by the movie, OMGaOhAMy God, this light-hearted serialAwill be Sharmaas third outing in
television, after Mera NaamAKaregi Roshan (Zee TV) andATaarak Mehta Ka OoltahAChashmah (Sab TV). a?I had gotAseveral offers from different channelsAbut never took up any projectsAbecause then I would not be able toAdo any films,a? says the actor. So,Awhat made him take up NeeliAChattri Wale? a?Ashwni Dhir, whoAwill be directing, started recitingAthe script. We hadnat even reachedAthe second episode and I agreed toAto play the role because I couldArelate to it so well,a? he says. NowAthat the actor has signed up for theAserial, he will not be taking upmovies for the next six months.
Memory lane
As for Sharmaas favourite genres, the actor likes realistic drama, a?beAit a thriller, comedy or tragedy. AskAhim about his earliest televisionAmemory and he picks ChitrahaarAon Doordarshan. a?I used to watchAthe films they played every SundayAin a neighbouras house,a? he says.ANeeli Chattri Wale premiers onAZee television on August 30,from 8 pm onwards.
