A sophisticated yet casual gastro-pub that makes diners feel at home

Loft 38 has clearly convinced casual dressers to swap flip-flops for formal shoes in order to dine at  this hotspot successfully blossoming in  Indiranagar. The gastro-pub, spread across three floors, is ideal for quick business meetings, after-work drinks, cosy dates or even boisterous weekend partying with friends. And while the music was a bit too loud for a post-work week day, it’s fine for party-goers on the weekend.

We started on the mezze platter while sipping our Bellini – a perfect blend of sparkling wine and peach purée, and a heady whisky cocktail called Pussy Galore.

The platter came laden with babaghanoush, hummus, tzatziki, falafel, marinated olives, kidney bean salad, crunchy fattoush, crackers and pita. The jalapen-corn croquettes here are great with a light honey chilli sauce while the grilled cottage cheese was a refreshing take on the usual paneer tikka. An apricot and chilli salsa marinade lent the dish a pleasant sweetsour flavour.

    Mainlining it
The Thai yellow curry is worth a sampling as the fresh lemon grass, galangal (Vietnamese ginger) and vegetables combine to make an aromatic and tasty treat. There’s plenty for good eaters to choose from apart from burgers, risottos and pastas. We opted for lamb shanks that quite surpassed our high expectations. The meat comes off the bone easily and you’ll be mopping up the red wine gravy with the creamy mashed potatoes, till it’s all   gone! Beef tenderloin, though a bit chewy, has spot on flavours with caremelised onions, jus and sau-téed mushrooms. Do try the inno-vative jerk chicken, bursting with Caribbean spices, ginger and lem-on grass. Vegetarians needn’t feel left out as the  deep-fried tofu cakes, crunchy on the outside, tossed in soya and garlic vegetables, is quite satisfying and  delicious enough to even tempt carnivores.

    Grand finale
End with Philadelphia cheesecake with blueberry compote for a lighter dessert. Or the chocolate, rum, raisin fondant with ice cream if you’re not counting the calories.

Rs. 2,000 upwards for two, including alcohol. At 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar. Details: 49337555
