It was almost a year ago that Dilip Kapur, CEO of Hidesign sat down with the Italian craftsmen over at Manifattura di Domodossola SPA, a family-run company that has a 103 year-old heritage of weaving vegetable tanned leathers into fashion accessories. His aim was to create a range of belts that would be innovative and functional without losing out on style and aesthetics. One look at the recently launched collection and you’d agree that he has succeeded.
“Belts have always been important to our male customers. We’ve done belts with rivets and with distressed leather and a host of other details. This time around, Dilip wanted to do something that was different. So we decided to go with woven belts, but knew we had to partner with an expert,” says Dipen Desai, brand manager at Hidesign.
Designed by Kapur, the leather used is from Italy. Apart from the sheer beauty of the belts, the drawing factor is the elasticity of the pieces. The base weave allows the leather to expand.
The collection has four options — Florence, Napoli, Roma and Torino. Florence, for women, is pure leather and available in tan, black and red. Napoli brings together beige cotton cords and tan leather for a classy, laid back vibe, while Roma is edgier with a mix of deep tan leather and navy cords. Torino is the men’s version of the Florence.
In the works
Hidesign has also ventured into the luxury leather segment with its new Atelier Collection. Classified into Champagne and Caviar lines, the former uses responsibly sourced Ostrich leather, while the latter is crafted with deer leather from farms in New Zealand.
