Tale of 3
“It’s about gender-relationships and the perception on women’s freedom,” says Karthik Subbaraj about Iraivi, which centres on three couples. It’s also about how attitudes and personal preferences affect their relationship, adds Subbaraj. The film (releasing today) has an ensemble cast, including Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Simha, Anjali, Pooja Devariya and Kamalini Mukherjee. A surprise addition is SJ Surya who returns to the screen after a hiatus. This is Subbaraj’s third venture, and hopefully as delightful as his earlier Pizza and Jigarthanda.
Back in business
Iraivi has SJ Surya playing one of the leads and he can’t hide his excitement. “I was thrilled when Karthik Subbaraj called me with the offer,” he says. What touched him was that Subbaraj had conceived the character keeping him in mind. ‘‘He comes out with such unique ideas,” gushes the actor, who is also playing a crucial character in Selvaragahavan’s next film. There are other offers, too, from “prestigious makers”, besides his own directorial in Telugu. The actor-director sure has his hands full.
Like his contemporaries Vishnu, too, has turned producer. His maiden venture, Velainu Vandhuta Vellaikaran, directed by Ezhil, sees him paired with Nikki Galrani. “The hero’s character will be in total contrast to the title; he botches up any task he undertakes,” says Ezhil. The director adds that by blending three tracks and weaving in romance and humour, he has tried ‘a new pattern of scripting’. For Vishnu, the film seems a more commercially-viable venture than his earlier ones.
