At the recently-concluded Kannada Film Fest in the city, a swelling auditorium greeted the screening of the Kannada film, U Turn. In fact, the organisers had to appease the large crowd by holding an unscheduled repeat screening of the film. Director Pawan Kumar seemed visibly overwhelmed with the response his film got. Ask him about reports of U Turn also getting a Tamil make-over (his Lucia has already been remade in Tamil, Enakkul Oruvan) and he says, “Nothing is finalised as yet. Talks are still on. And yes, Samantha is keen on the remake.”Worth
Thattathin Marayathu was an engaging love story between a middle class Hindu youth and a wealthy Muslim girl. Now the Malayalam film, adapted to Tamil as Meendum Oru Kadhal Kathai, is scheduled to hit theatres this weekend. Directed by Mithran Jawahar, it has Isha Talwar reprising her role from the original. Talwar had disappeared after her Tamil debut in Thillu Mullu. Hopefully, this film will be a career booster for her.

She had debuted on the Tamil screen with director Vijay’s Idhu Enna Mayam (2015). But with no takers after that, Kavya Shetty looked homewards and her latest Kannada film, Ishtakamya, has crossed the 50-day run in theatres in Karnataka. Present at its Chennai screening, the model-turned-actress is elated that she is being noticed by Kannada makers. What about Tamil films, we ask her. “I’m definitely interested in doing them. But I’m waiting for a suitable script,” she says.
