After Zero, what?
His debut fantasy-horror thriller Zero had quite a few elements that were unusual and interesting. But it received a lukewarm response at the box office. However director Shiv Mohaa has reason to smile. For the film has recently been conferred the ‘Distinguished Design’ honor from the Rocheston Accreditation Institute for its ‘Exceptional artistic creation and technique’. Meanwhile, Mohaa is all set to launch his next film. “It’s about crime against women. And it would be an emotional thriller,” says he.
The trump card
After supporting roles in films like Aaranyakandam and Jigarthanda, Guru Somasundaram gets to play the protagonist in Joker. “When I was approached to play the lead I was a bit doubtful whether the director was serious about taking me. In fact I confirmed it from him quite a few times to his amusement,” he recalls. He adds that the team had long rehearsals to perfect the nuances and detailing. Directed by Raju Murugan (of Cuckoo), the film, releasing today, is a socio-political satire.
On the road
She was one of the ‘Calendar Girls’ in Madhur Bhandarkar’s film of the same title. A model and a participant in various beauty pageants like Femina Miss India, Ruhi Singh had caught Bhandarkar’s eye and was picked up for his film. And now Singh debuts on the Tamil screen with Bongu, a road-film, where she shares frames with Natarajan Subramaniam. Incidentally, Raai Laxmi the initial choice had reportedly opted out of the film due to an injury. And Laxmi’s loss has been Singh’s gain.
