Two to thrill
It’s a double whammy for lovers of the horror-comic genre with Hello, Naan Pei Pesuren and Darling 2 hitting theatres today. Both are helmed by debutant filmmakers — Bhaskar and Satish Chandrasekhar respectively — from the short-film fraternity. Hello… with Vaibhav-Oviya-Aishwarya Rajesh in the cast, centres on a possessed cell phone. Darling 2, with rising actors, is about five friends harassed by a couple of ghosts. Unlike some recently-released films in the genre, I hope these two films are appealing.
Keeping it real
“It’s a murder mystery. And I’ve used a narrative style which will be a novelty for the Tamil screen,” says director AMR Ramesh about Oru Melliya Kodu. The film, set to hit theatres today, has Arjun, Shaam and Manisha Koirala in the cast. Ramesh’s earlier films, all bilinguals (Tamil/Kannada) like Kuppi, have been inspired by real-life incidents. Ask him if this one is a take on a real-life event, too, and he says, “It’s not just one, but quite a few real-life events that have inspired me to make this film.” One can expect a thriller of a ride here.
Chip off the block
He is one of the versatile actors of Tamil cinema. And now Delhi Ganesh has turned producer and launched his son, Maha, as a hero in Ennul Aayiram. A romantic-crime-thriller (releasing today), it is directed by debutant Krishnakumar. Ask Maha how the experience was and he gushes, “I enjoyed it thoroughly. My biggest challenge was making my father proud.” With a seasoned actor for a father, the young debutant can’t go wrong.
