    Bollywood darling and a hit with brides globally, Manish Malhotra has joined the online club

    IT was just a matter of time before Manish Malhotra got himself an online retail address. Of course he and scores of Indian designers have been flirting with the idea of e-commerce via Pernia’s Pop Up Shop, but this is the real deal. While stylist and entrepreneur Pernia’s platform features collections from both iconic and upcoming designers curated by her, Manishmalhotra.in is looking at featuring all of the Mumbai designer’s classic hits, couture, pret and recent runway collections. For now, however, you will have to make do with a compact selection of kurtas, lehengas, saris and jackets from his bridal and diffusion lines.

    Star power
    The website, powered by the e-commerce portal Exclusively.in, offers easy browsing and payment options, though some fine-tuning is being anticipated. Given the designer’s popularity in Bollywood, a category or tab for his clothes worn by movie stars is inevitable. After all, the demand for the saris worn by Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, especially the georgette cobalt offering with champagne gold sequins, was unprecedented when it was retailed on Pernia’s Pop Up Shop for about Rs38,000.

    On Malhotra’s website, you will find a lavish gold net embroidered sari for `2,15,000, an on-trend blue lehenga with boat neck blouse, sliced Chantelle lace open back and thick hand sewn sequins for `3,45,000 or printed tunics for `15,000 upwards. Prices can go up to `5,00,000 and sizes range from S to L. And while editorial, as seen on the popular Net-a-porter, will not be introduced here for now, there will be frequent outfit updates. With close to six lakh ‘likes’ on his Facebook page, Malhotra will not be short of e-shoppers. The colour block tunics from last year are still in demand, but what will make fans dizzy is the soon-to-be-introduced option of buying off the runway. This means Malhotra’s recent resort 2014 collection, titled A Summer Affair, with its anti-fit crop tops and zipped saris, will soon be available. And menswear is next. Hurrah.
