Friday the 13th might have loomed large this weekend, but we managed to come out the other side, none the worse for wear. Maybe our feet hurt a little from all the dancing, but besides that, not much to complain about. I’ll share those details in a bit; let me relay the events of the week in order. Starting off the festivities was the star-studded inauguration of the 11th edition of the Chennai
International Film Festival. Guaranteeing a packed house was the joint presence of Kamal Haasan and Aamir Khan, who didn’t just ‘make an appearance’ but engaged in an interesting discussion on filmmaking, the rules involved and the way forward. At the after-party at Radisson Blu City Centre later in the night, Khan also showed off a few Zumba steps much to the delight of his companions.
It continued to rain celebrities through the weekend with the arrival of DJ Aqeel for a special night at Pasha. Saturday might have had loads to offer, but the crowd certainly made a stop at The Park. Fans followed Aqeel around the hotel, requesting photos, finally ending up right in front of the DJ console. It was a mix of Bollywood, EDM and commercial music along with a lot of crowd interaction. The ladies were loving it and most refused to move from their ‘photo taking’ vantage points. Adding to the effect was some amazing visual artistry, with visuals being mapped and projected on the screens.
Despite dancing the weekend away, the ladies seemed to recover quickly and appeared bright and early to meet Queenie Dhody at Evoluzione. The diva and her stunning collection of jewellery proved to be just the right combination. Queenie interacted with guests, urging them to go for single statement pieces instead of choosing sets. Almost as if to make a point, she put on a diamond serpent necklace, which she proceeded to model for us.
This season sees a variety of styles with precious and semi-precious stones, focusing on brides as well. Ask her where her inspiration comes from and she says she sees beauty in everything. And how does she handle competition? ‘‘I don’t even think of it… I love what I do!’’
