New apps that help make meaningful connections with strangers.
THE buzz around meeting/social/dating apps seem far from over. Every month, a new one goes live on our smartphones. Our pick of the latest.
Happn: Paris-based Happn entered India last month. Giving algorithm-based match process a miss, it connects people through hyperlocation in real time. What that means is once you have crossed paths with another Happn user, his or her profile will show up on your timeline. ‘See You There’ is its latest feature, which lets users specify and match activities (like eating out, running, catching a movie) they are interested in doing in the next four hours. Ting Ting: Hyderabad-based Sandeep Gandra’s Ting Ting connects people who need help (stuck in some emergency, or are looking to resolve their problems). Once you have selected the radius within which you wish to find the person (from 0.5 to 50 km), you can post a 10-second voice message and type it out. You can also send virtual hugs to the person to thank him or her later, and write a review. It is targeted at the student community currently. Details: tingtingapp.com
Parooz: Shekhar Yadav’s Parooz was launched in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru last week. Following a sign-up through a Facebook account, it matches people based on their interests. To keep things ticking, it also lets you use its set of emojis or virtual gifts. We like their emphasis on providing a ‘safe experience’. Yadav informs that the app constantly analyses messages and activities to find patterns of abnormal or fake activities. On Android. Details: paroo.io
