Monkeying around with flavours and concepts unites the new specials menu at Monkey Bar, Indiranagar. From a starter that comes with a shot of vegetable broth to riffs on traditional cocktails, head chef Varun Pereira has curated a menu with surprises for even the most regular patrons.
Desi snacks come in the form of paneer bhurji bao and ricotta and paneer kebabs. Heighten the flavours by combining the bao with sips of the accompanying vegetable stock, and dipping the kebabs in the sweet, onion-seed seasoned tomato chutney. Hungry meat-eaters can tuck into the double-cooked pork chops which literally fall off the bone.
The menu is rounded off with offerings for the sweet toothed. Bite into the signature Monkey Bar – chocolate ice cream, peanut butter and almonds freshly dipped in chocolate and served on a wooden lollipop stick. The Banoffee Tres Leches is a classic banana and walnut cake, but could do with more chocolate sauce to avoid dryness.
For midweek parties, sample the special cocktails while reliving the era of funk and disco with DJ Jeza. Choose from Off the Map, a classic ginger whiskey combination with an unusual peach and pomegranate twist, or the Funky Monkey, which blends Caribbean rum with passion fruit, pomegranate and a hint
of mint. For a touch of childhood nostalgia, try the Jell-O shots with flavoured granitas.
Rs.1,200 upwards for two.
