If you’re planning on buying a performance motorcycle under Rs 3 lakh, you’re in luck
Everyone wants a superbike, but let’s face it, not everyone can afford one. Spending at least `5 lakh on a motorcycle isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, which is why the Bajaj Pulsars, Hero MotoCorp Karizmas, KTM Dukes and TVS Apaches are such a big hit. If you’re looking at picking up any of those though, you’d want to consider waiting for these three new bikes coming our way soon.
The TVS Akula is based on the BMW G310R, but with the added TVS expertise coming in from the racetrack, it can only mean that this one’s going to be a scorcher. The Akula has already been testing in India but whether or not the G310R’s delay is going to affect this one remains to be seen. Akula means ‘shark’ in Russian and that is also the design inspiration for the bike–just the way this one looks (and hopefully, performs), has got us excited. The KTM RC 390 might have reason to worry.
Expected price: `2 lakh
Bajaj CS 400
The Bajaj CS 400 has been on the anvil for a long time — first shown off as a concept at the 2014 Auto Expo, it is now regularly spotted testing in and around Pune and is slated to launch in September 2016. At the heart of the CS 400 is the KTM Duke’s 375cc single-cylinder engine, but what will really draw buyers is the unique styling that the motorcycle comes with. Much like earlier Bajaj versions of KTM bikes, the CS 400 will be even more cost-effective as well. Expected price: `1.8 lakh
It is the most affordable BMW motorcycle that you will be able to buy, thanks to a tie-up with TVS Motors. Powered by a 313cc, single-cylinder ‘introverted’ engine that has its intake port in the front, exhaust port at the back and with the cylinder tapering backwards, the G310R makes 34bhp and comes with some really high-end motorcycle parts. If that doesn’t entice you, the fact that it might just be cheaper than the KTM 390 Duke is definitely worth considering despite the launch delay, which is now slotted for some time early 2017. Expected price: `2 lakh
