Bajaj is playing every Indian biker’s Santa Claus this Christmas and riding in on the brand new Dominor 400
It’s ALMOST Christmas and there couldn’t have been a better gift to Indian bikers than the coming of the Dominar 400! With what is now fast becoming a trait with the bikemaker, its aggressive pricing strategy means that Bajaj has once again sent its competitors back to the drawing board – wondering if they’ve ‘been bad’ all year long.Despite all marketing communication hinting towards a very Goth theme, this new premium offering is spreading the cheer to Indian motorcyclists. Here’s why.
Sleek as a sled
With a design that is more powertourer than street-scorcher, the Dominar 400 has some massive road presence combined with a sporty riding position. The instrumentation is split in two units – one mounted traditionally along the handlebar with the other sitting tight on the 13-litre fuel tank. It may look like it’s inspired by the Ducati Diavel, but there’s no doubt that the elves at Bajaj’s design studios have done a super job.
Jingle bells (& whistles)
The Dominar’s 373.3cc, liquidcooled, single-pot, triple-spark DTS -i engine makes 35PS and 35Nm, comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox through a slipper clutch and can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in just 8.23 seconds, with a top speed of 148 kmph. Up front is India’s first LED array headlamp on a motorcycle— spreading a powerful beam of balanced white light to reduce rider fatigue at night. That means it’s also easily spottable, and you’ll see Santa approaching on a Dominar from miles away.
Wishes do come true
At Rs 1.36 lakh ex-showroom in Delhi for the non-ABS version and `1.50 lakh with dual-channel ABS , the Dominar 400 is making mince pie out of a number of rival machines. While that may be introductory pricing, it is great value for money and bookings can now be made online at just `9,000. With so much going in favour of the Dominar 400, we can’t help but wonder if this is proof enough that deep down inside, Santa sure is a biker!
