House of Versace (Biography / Drama), Star Movies, 7.30 pm
Cast: Gina Gershon, Enrico Colantoni, Colm Feore, Raquel Welch
The movie is based on the 2010 book, House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder and Survival, written by Wall Street Journal reporter Deborah Ball. The biopic follows Donatella’s (Gina Gershon) triumph over tragedy following the murder of her brother Gianni (Enrico Colantoni). She is thrust into the limelight as the creative director of the Versace brand. Despite substance abuse problems and nearly bankrupting the company, Donatella emerges from a stint in rehab ready to re-launch Versace as a fashion powerhouse, with help from her daughter Allegra, her brother Santo (Colm Feore) and her Aunt Lucia (Raquel Welch). Gershon has been credited with portraying an extremely believable Donatella, but the Versace house officially disassociated themselves from the movie, saying that it should be regarded as ‘only a work of fiction’.
