Based on the book The Guardians of Childhood, by William Joyce, the film follows North (Alec Baldwin), popularly known as Santa Claus, and his friends. When Claus is alerted that Pitch Black (Jude Law), the Boogeyman, has returned from a long absence and is intent on frightening little children, he joins forces with his buddies Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher), Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), Sandman and Jack Frost (Chris Pine), to put a stop to Pitch’s evil plan. The idea for the script came to the author when his daughter asked him if Santa Claus had ever met the Easter Bunny.

When Adam Cassidy (Liam Hemsworth) is fired from his job for insubordination, he vents his anger by ordering drinks for friends at a club and paying with a company credit card. CEO Nicholas Wyatt (Gary Oldman) and his enforcer Miles Meachum (Julian McMahon) then blackmail Adam into turning a corporate spy and threaten him with jail time for fraud if he does not comply. In order to save himself, he agrees to their terms. But as the tasks get more dangerous and the stakes get higher, can he continue to take such huge risks? Kevin Spacey was initially cast to play the part of Wyatt, but turned it down to due to personal reasons.

Oscar Diggs (James Franco) is escaping from his lover’s husband in a hot air balloon when he is sucked into a tornado that transports him to the Land of Oz. Once there, he is spotted by the beautiful witch Theodora (Mila Kunis), who thinks he is a wizard. Together they travel to the Emerald City with Finley, the flying monkey, in tow. Once they get there, Oscar is informed by Theodora’s sister, Evanora (Rachel Weisz), that he must kill her sister, Glinda, a wicked witch, in order to become king. But when they find her, Glinda reveals the identity of the real wicked witch, throwing them into a quandary. Actual physical sets were constructed so actors could get a visual idea of what the film
would look like.
