With floral motifs on translucent fabrics, mother-daughter designer duo debut their collection at Collage
BENGALURU’s mother daughter duo, Jamila Malhotra and Seema Malhotra, the designers behind the wedding boutique Shimmer, are debuting their new collection, at Collage. The Healing Garden, featuring floral prints, is clearly inspired by nature. “I have always been fascinated by flowers and the power of nature to heal. Without nature we are like a barren soul,” Seema explains. Talking about the Mughal influence, “I have also been inspired by the romance of the Mughal era. I have recreated the past romance of a Mughal garden in my designs, but gave them contemporary silhouettes—like long jackets paired with palazzos, shararas and anarkalis,” she says.
A departure from heavy embroidery and embellishments, this line features softer and lighter designs on translucent fabrics. “We have used a lot of net, georgette, chiffon and lamé, and the colour palette consists of soft peaches, beige, nude ivory, off-white, sea green and aqua green. The floral motifs are the central theme of the collection,” explains the self taught designer, who followed her passion and joined her designer mother, Jamila, soon after college.
Excited to be coming to the city, Seema says, “I always wanted to launch my collection here. I am looking forward to meeting people and helping them decide what would suit them.” Having worked with Kannada film personalities like Ramya, Seema hopes to draw the attention of our celluloid stars too.
At Collage, on May 28 and 29. From Rs 20,000 to Rs 60,000. Details: 28291443
