Shruti Prakash on her new job — Ishq Unplugged
Belgaum girl Shruti Prakash is on a roll. After singing her way to the semifinals of Closeup WebSinger — India’s first online music hunt — last year, her attention is now on making her mark in acting on television. On the Channel V show, Ishq Unplugged, she plays Antara, the daughter of a famous singer, who’s competing in a music reality show . There, she ends up teaming with Mandy, another contestant, played by India’s Raw Star contestant Mohit Gaur. While Antara and Mandy will fall in love eventually, the going is far from smooth at the moment, as the two are currently “fighting like cats and dogs”.
It goes without saying that Ishq Unplugged is filled with songs, since the entire premise of the story is based on music, and Prakash could not have asked for a better acting debut. “It’s the cherry on the cake,” says the 22-year-old BBA graduate, who used to be a content writer and business developer before the change in her career.
And despite all the singing that’s going on in front of the camera, behind it, and even between shots, acting continues to the primary focus for Prakash. “When Aman, the show’s director, saw my acting for the first two days, he had this feeling that it would get difficult for me. But he says that I have picked up the pace pretty fast. I am improving my skills by constantly asking for feedback from my director, and even my hairstylists,” she adds.
How did she bag the TV project in the first place, we ask. “Panorama Entertainment that produces this show was looking for real singers. One of my friends told me about it, and asked me to audition. I did, and got through,” says Prakash, who in the meanwhile is working on some music covers, and planning to go online with some songs via the #fame platform.
When she’s not busy with her TV show, she unwinds over Pretty Little Liars, Grey’s Anatomy, and Suits. And then there are the songs from Kapoor & Sons, and Photograph by Ed Sheeran that keep her upbeat.
