Ready your baskets for some serious organic shopping this weekend
The third edition of Redwood Montessori School’s Annual Organic Fair is just a day away, and everyone’s invited. “Our motto is to see that it is seasonal, fresh, local and organic,” says Madhura Visweswaran, who along with Shankari Subbiah, started Redwood three years ago. Visweswaran insists that the school does everything possible to see that the children get nutritious food — not just at school but also at home — and it was with this in mind that their annual fair was conceptualised. “We want to introduce parents to certified organic vendors, all under one roof,” she explains.
So what do we look out for tomorrow? “There will be all kinds of organic vegetables from different vendors and a few organic treats from home bakers too. The fair also showcases other organic products like oils and soaps for instance,” Visweswaran shares, clarifying that while they assure that the vegetables will all be 100 per cent organic, the food products will be as organic as possible with some gluten-free (think gluten-free buckwheat pancakes, courtesy Meera Marran of Terra Earth) offerings as well.
Some interesting products to look out for this year are the organic rice products (apalams, idiappam flour, podis, etc) from CKIS Sirkazhi, and Porur-based Arockyasanthai who will be offering organic oils (sesame, groundnut, eucalyptus, peppermint and tea tree). And when you’re done stocking up for the larder, do check out the terracotta jewellery, bags, soaps and more from vendors like Krya and Auronature.
From 4 pm to 7 pm on February 1, at the school premises in Besant Nagar. Details: 24913557
