UK brand Darya London’s neckpieces, earrings and bracelets inspired by Russian royalty, are now in the city
After a successful launch of their Spring/Summer collection 2014, Darya London, the year-old jewellery store from the UK debuts in the city at MaalGaadi this week. Inspired by Russian royalty, the collection will feature neck pieces, headbands, bracelets and earrings made with Swarovski crystals, pearls and enameled stones. “Russian royal families are known for their sophistication and ageless grace and this line features exactly that. We decided to bring this collection to Chennai as I saw a lot of people appreciating statement jewellery here,” shares Karan Daryanani, CEO, 29, who has a degree in jewellery designing from the Gemmological Institute of America. With the stones and chains for the collection sourced from China and Paris, the jewellery is manufactured in India and then taken to London for final touches. Expect patterns like leaves and flowers crafted with Swarovski crystals and enameled stones.
Talking about artificial jewellery and chunky designs, Darya-nani, who hails from Spain, says, “In India, people initially stuck to elegant gold and silver jewellery. Then there was an influx of elaborate fashionstatement pieces and this is where Darya London will fill in the gap.” With cristallised headbands and wrap around bracelets being a huge hit with the youngsters in London, the designer is of the opinion that the collection will raise the standards of costume jewellery in Chennai. Next in line is their Fall/Winter Collection 2014 inspired by the Italian style of the 1980s. The company is also looking to make their e-store accessible throughout the world and launch their brand in Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune in the next month.
