Itas always a great move when a radio station decides to jam with its listeners. It gives the radio unit a visual reference about the people consuming the channel. When a meet-and-greet is executed with a lot of thought and care, the result is more than inspiring. Radio Mirchi pulled off something extraordinary with its listeners last Saturday, in an event that was a first in India as well as the cityathe Neon Night Run. Held at the YMCA Nandanam grounds, Chennaiites dropped by in massive numbers.
Three thousand official registrations and a total of six thousand in attendance made it look nothing short of a rock show. The concept was visually interesting. Runners were provided with neon T-shirts and accessories by the radio station and made to run on a designated path lit by neon lamps. This made everyone glow and look like they had come straight out of the movie Avatar.
The five-kilometre run was the realMcCoy, while the three kilometre stretch was just for fun. a?Fun was the objective of the event and not a cause. We celebrated Chennai like no one has. It was a spectacular theme with the vibrant people of this city and thatas a perfect match right there. We also conducted the same event in two other cities. Madurai was pleasantly surprised with the concept, while Coimbatore brought the house down with its response,a? says Ajai Titus.
There was a lot happening during the run. RJ-actor Sendil ran alongside the runners, recording quick sound bites. There was a warm up and a cool down session with a Zumba routine. RJ-actor Shiva showed the crowd some mean dance moves, which could even leave Prabhu Deva thinking. He came up with a never-seen-before step which he named a?Fix the bulb while you turn the tap offa. With two thousand people doing the same, the sight was hilarious. This was a fantastic effort by 98.3FM and a new concept executed with ease.
See you next week with more radio talk.
