Bachelorhood to midlife crisis, this comedy sketch will cover it all
Jeeveshu Ahluwalia will open his first solo comedy show in the city on Sunday. Titled Unabashed/Uninhibited/Unapologetic, it is about everything he deals with on a day-to-day basis. The 30-year-old Delhiite says, “Well almost,” adding, “I will talk about how single mothers want children to get married at a certain age. I married at the ‘right age’ but got divorced. So I will also speak about life after divorce. And how, if you decide not to marry at all, parents assume you’re gay.”
The one-hour material will also touch upon topics like midlife crisis, receding hairlines and the struggles of a man on the heavier side (he is called the Salman Khan Of The Fat World). All this and more will be treated with his signature “dry wit and sarcasm”. Ahluwalia will next take this act to Gujarat, Singapore, Dubai and a few other places.
A little over three years old in the standup scene in the country, Ahluwalia has become an audience favourite. The talented artist has a packed schedule with ads, YouTube sketches, voice over assignments, radio shows and bar gigs. He has also been signed up to promote the launch of the much-awaited theme park, Bollywood Parks in Dubai. Promotional material for the launch includes him doing spoofs of lead characters from flicks such as Sholay, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Don, Lagaan and Dabangg in 60-second clips.
But despite having a lot on his plate, he makes sure he takes a breather every now and then. “Last year, I took 12 vacations (chuckles). I started doing comedy after a 16-year-long stint in the corporate world. So I make sure my life does not get as busy as it earlier was,” he says.
The movie buff is also interested to pursue a career in films, “not just as a comedian, but an actor as well.” “I would like to do negative roles,” he concludes.
