Hasee Toh Phasee
Director: Vinil Mathew
Cast: Parineeti Chopra, Sidharth Malhotra
This rom-com has everything going for it—a great lead, good humour and a talented production team. What it doesn’t have is a coherent story. However, we applaud that the director has refrained from making the film too dramatic. What we take away from it are Malhotra and Chopra’s performances.
Saving Mr Banks
Director: John Lee Hancock
Cast: Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks
A well-scripted movie, with some effortless acting, it revolves around Walt Disney’s efforts to convince Mary Poppins’ author, PL Travers, to give him the rights to her story so he could can turn it into a musical. A feel-good film, which sometimes has us questioning how authentic the character portrayals are (everyone’s a tad too perfect), it is still an involving watch.
Director: SU Arun Kumar
Cast: Vijay Sethupathi, Jayaprakash
Revolving around a village landlord’s devotion to a car left in his care, it’s about ordinary people and their simple desires. Its refreshing story line, with humour and sentiment weaved in, makes it an engaging ride. The performances in general are finely tuned. Splendidly fitting in as the driver of the car, Sethupathi infuses life into his character. Jayaprakash is outstanding as the amiable landlord and Thulasi as his wife.
