    Celebrating the 375th anniversary of our city, Blu Hickey Bistro at Radisson Blu GRT on GST Road, welcomes you with their version of that era-maanga-thokkudistinctly Madras meal — tiffin. No, they don’t offer tiffin carriers that you can take home, but you will be served in them, we’re assured. The menu, that will keep changing every day, offers breakfast staples like the set dosais, pongals and vadais that will be on offer all day (11 am to 7 pm) till August 31.     Meanwhile, after the recently concluded Gramathu Virundhu (village feast) by celebrity chef Damu at GRT Grand, comes Courtyard by Marriott’s Namma Saapadu. Executive chef Sridhar Sigatapu and his team of chefs have decided to celebrate the whole of Tamil Nadu with their festival that starts today. “We’re showcasing dishes from places like the Chettinad belt, Arakonam, Ambur and our very own Mylapore,” says the chef, adding that his team, who are from various parts of the state, have collected recipes and tips from households in these regions. “We are taking a very rustic approach,” he says, explaining, “the masalas are all hand-pounded or coarsely ground. We’re using country chicken instead of broiler and dishes like the biryani are being made on wood fire.” Yes, the chemeen varuval, idicha kozhi and mutton chops sound appetising (for vegetarians they offer the likes of Karaikudi kaalan and vazhaipoo vadais), but we’re looking forward to the special vadams that have been sourced from the maamis of the Chettinad region.
