Kitsch Mandi returns with more quirkiness and live installations
Kitsch Mandi returns to the city with an exciting line up of stalls. Roshnee Kumar, founder, points out the highlights expected this year. “It will go on till 1 am, and will have the usual line up of stall, plus new ones like Lil Quirky — a company started by a bunch of Bangalore-based friends who make graphic T-shirts and posters,” she begins. Be Hemp India will also be present should you want to stock up on hemp products like dream catchers, flip-flops, bags, wallets, belts and other accessories. “It will be a great shopping experience for shopaholics, especially if you have an eye for the off-beat. There will be a lot of handicrafts and artifacts to choose from for those who like the ethnic vibe,” she tells us, adding that live installations will be a major draw.
Look out for Life Inside a Box, a project that asks people to sit inside a cardboard box and answer questions about life, which will then be weaved into a single narrative that ‘forms a deeper understanding of what it means to be human’. “Studio ABCD will showcase lamps and light installations during the summer market this year,” she tells us.
Rajas will sort you out with kitschy laptop sleeves and mouse pads in Indian prints. “Their promote traditional art using block prints, kalamkari, Madhubani, bandhani and others”, reveals Kumar. When the sun goes down and the lights come on, music will take centrestage as Madboy/Mink will launch their new EP. The funk Nu Disco duo based in Mumbai will play a mash up of electro and funk with old school Harlem swing thrown into the mix alongside live guitars, synthesizers, and vocoders.
