What you need to know about Nidhi Dutta, who makes her debut in Jee Bhar Ke Jee Le
NIDHI Dutta, the daughter of legendary director, JP Dutta, has just completed shooting for Binoy Gandhi’s Jee Bhar Ke Jee Le, a road movie opposite Nafisa Ali’s son, Ajith Sodhi. In it, she plays a travel blogger who is chasing her dreams and her love. With the Dutta legacy resting heavy on her shoulders, this third generation film professional understands the nuances of filmmaking as she has not only learnt it from La Femis, Paris, but she was also an assistant director for her father’s Umrao Jaan.
In her younger days, she admits to bunking school and hanging out at film sets. She always knew she’d be a part of films; she just didn’t know if it would be as an actor or a director. “When my father decided to do Umrao Jaan, I knew my time had come. He still chides me that I never asked him, but decided on my own that I was going to be part of the project,” says Nidhi.
After the film released, she went to Paris, to pursue an acting and directing course. “It helped me decide that acting was my calling. When Binoy asked me to play the female lead in his film, everything fell into place,” she says. Her transformation from girl-next-door into a heroine in six months was done through a back-breaking regime of gym, Pilates and dance. “I was going through an emotional period, with the loss of my grandfather and my god uncle. I’d put on a lot of weight, but the film gave me direction,” she shares.
Looking forward to a successful debut, the 20-something has also signed up with a professional talent management company and is listening to scripts. With a friendly demeanour concealing her focus to make it big , we’re sure we will be hearing her name more often.
Jee Bhar Ke Jee Le is scheduled to release in April.
