Coworking hotspots up their game with offbeat activities

Coworking spaces have always focussed on startups, and entrepreneurs. But of late some are pushing the envelope to welcome the creative minds as well. The idea is simple: Having people with different interests, and experience under the same roof makes the space creative and mutually productive too. That’s why owners of these coworking spaces are going beyond offering just office essentials, and Wi-Fi. They are, in fact, working towards building a community.
    The Minute Bistro
This terrace is not only a co-working space, but a café too. As a café visitor, you are charged for every minute (`5) you spend here, and the food is on the house. However, you have to serve yourself — be it tossing a salad, grilling your own sandwich, or making a cup of tea. And the rule stands for co-workers too. Fashioned from recycled items, The bistro also has a playstation for gamers, and soon coworkers will get to attend cooking workshops, book readings, and even boardgame contests. `10,000 onwards (per month). At Kasturi Nagar. Details: 9916173613
    Numa Bengaluru
Spread across five floors and a terrace, Numa Bengaluru has dedicated floors for a startup accelerator, a coworking hub, and cultural events. The ‘events floor’ holds 15-20 cultural activities every month that even coworkers have access to. They also hold dance and painting workshops for members, and every Tuesday, movie screenings are organised. A French café is also in the offing. `300 onwards (per day). At Church Street. BHive
With four outlets across Koramangala, Indiranagar and HSR Layout, BHive has about 700 coworkers under its roof. Socialising and productivity-boosting activities are diverse and frequent. For instance, they have held salsa sessions at its HSR outlet. Shake a leg, de-stress, and of course pick up the nuances of socialising. And, when the coworking lot wants to party in a big way, they go pubbing. Some of the coworkers also go running once a week, while others take up machine-free body training exercises. Members can also enroll for language classes. `250 onwards (per day). Details: bhiveworkspace.com
    Jaaga Startup
This penthouse, complete with a hall, lounge, terrace and a small café, houses 30-plus startups. As a mandate, it curates a set of entrepreneurs, tech or non-tech,who can grow together. It hosts ‘happy hours’ every month, where people talk about their interests and hobbies. They also offer yoga classes on request, and guess what, coworkers can bring their pets too! `4,200 upwards (per month). At Richmond Road. Details: jaagastartup.in
    Workbench Projects
Housed under Halasuru Metro Station, complete with an industrial décor, this is the go-to place for startups, and innovators interested in hardware field. That no member, or coworker has a designated seat is an activity enough to get them interacting. Last month, it added a café in its backyard, and a kitchen garden. Interestingly, every furniture and light fixture in this eatery (in collaboration with Ants Café) has been made inside their workshop. Every table top has creative versions of boardgames laser printed on them. Soon, it will be a space for culinary artistes to share their work, or hold food previews, and tastings. The café is open to all. `3,000 per month. Details: workbenchprojects.com
    The Den
Located right below Puma Social Club, The Den has a trendy factory look. Its upcycled furniture and décor celebrate the idea of sustainability, and, yes, creativity. It also has a special grub menu for its coworkers, which includes omelettes, toasts, sandwiches, hot and cold beverages, and is part of the rental. `400 per day. At Indiranagar. Details: 8861433660
    Social Offline
A popular coworking hotspot, Social offline lets you work amidst quirky art, music, and like-minded people. Their ‘Roots’ networking event, where successful entrepreneurs talk about their personal journeys, and their casual meetup — ‘Essential Business Skills’ — are quite popular. `5,000 per month (fully redeemable against food and beverage). At Church St, and Whitefield. Details: socialoffline.in
