Why you should check out Arjun Saluja’s latest collection at Evoluzione
Arjun Saluja’s autumn-winter collection, launched at Evoluzione last week, features the nearly extinct khais technique from Sindh, as prints, frayed leather jackets and blouses with zipper detailing. A hit at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week this year, this collection of flowy, monastic silhouettes, in brooding hues of grey, is in Chennai for the first time, and is a refreshing departure from the structured and body hugging outfits that are in demand right now.
Saluja says his line was inspired by his trip to Lahore. “It’s about progression vs regression, and the societal changes in Lahore. I’ve imbibed and brought the whole travelling experience, like meeting people and artistes there, and having conversations with them, through this collection,” explains the Delhi-based designer. Besides the separates, Saluja intrigues with amalgamations of the sari and a burkha, which he had teamed with turtleneck leather jackets for the show. There are also drop-crotch pants (a style that is often sported by Hollywood celebrities like Justin Bieber and Gwen Stefani), apart from panelled and darted long coats. His use of fabrics like wool, silk, jacquard silk, plaid and leather with full sleeved coats and shirt are perfect for the approaching winter. And the boxy blazers in dilapidated leather are a holiday essential, we think.
