Television’s newest export, Karan Wahi, on how it helps to be acquainted with his co-stars
Karan WAHI had started working at the age of 18 when all his friends were still chilling and partying. When his first TV show, Remix, was launched in 2004, he had wooed college girls all over the country. Subsequently, the Delhi boy has done several other serials like Dill Mill Gaye and Mere Ghar Aayi Ek Nanhi Pari, and hosted TV shows like Nach Baliye and Indian Idol Junior as well. After 10 years of TV, he will be finally debuting on the silver screen with two of the biggest production houses of the country – Yash Raj Films and UTV.
Daawat-e-ishq, directed by Habib Faizal, happened right after he finished anchoring Indian Idol Junior . On playing the second lead in the YRF film, opposite Parineeti Chopra (Aditya Roy Kapoor plays the main lead), the 28-year-old maintains, “It is a nice, sweet role, and I could probably say I’d be the surprise element of the movie because nothing has been let out about my character yet. I’m there in the movie for a good 30 to 35 minutes,” says the actor. About his co-stars in the film, Wahi says, “Even though I didn’t shoot with Aditya much, it was a good experience because I knew him well even before the movie started. I play soccer with him. And I had interviewed Parineeti a couple of times as an anchor. She’s a very bindass person and fun to work with. As for Anupam Kher, I got to learn so much! He is such an amazing actor.”
In good company
In his second film called Babbu Ki Jawani, which is a UTV Spotboy production, he gets to play the main lead. His character in the film is a geeky boy for which he had to go from buff to a lean physique. “Since the character is such that he could not have six packs, I had to lose my six pack abs completely, only after which I started shooting.” The film’s release date is yet to be decided with some shooting still pending.
Daawat-E-Ishq is scheduled to release on September 5.
