It’s that time of sdfasfthe year again, where the heat and cricket come together in one crazy all-consuming combo. We may not have a home team to cheer for this year, but that hasn’t and won’t stop everyone from being glued to the two-month-long madness that is to follow. Cricket Fans had to make do with a ‘mini-treat’ in the form of Dwayne Bravo, who was in town for a quick visit to launch the Ultimate Sports Coaching Camp, by Golden Goose Sports. The formal event at Forum Vijaya Mall included everything from Bravo singing and dancing with fans, to answering innumerable questions about the Chennai Super Kings. Meanwhile across town, the proceedings were slightly less frenzied at The Residency Towers for the launch party of Chef Willi’s signature dishes at The Crown, featuring a sneak preview of the ongoing food festival. Friends of general manager, Charles Fabian and Chef Willi, who someone referred to as one of the golden boys of the Chennai culinary scene, enjoyed the special menu.
It was a similar crowd on Friday at Park Hyatt with The Pristine White Spa Party finding favour with expats, socialites and popular city faces, all of whom stuck to the theme religiously. In one of those rare occasions, no one complained about the heat, well distracted by the breeze at the rooftop infinity pool and a range of fruity cocktails from the Garden Bar.
Saturday saw us at the JFW Women’s Summit at Crowne Plaza, where a large (and not solely female audience) had gathered for an evening of afgfghealthy discussion. It’s great to see the number of men in the audience increase with each passing year, not to mention them being bold enough to ask the difficult questions. Things were equally exciting on stage with panelists like Radikaa Sarathkumar, Dr Gita Arjun and Lalitha Kumaramangalam, keeping us entertained with stories from the early days of their careers. The most buzz, of course ,surrounded the session with director R Balki, with a lot of the conversation focusing on his latest release Ki and Ka, and his affinity for Amitabh Bachchan.
The Bollywood connection continued through the weekend with the presence of model and actor Waluscha De Sousa and celebrity stylist and designer Ashley Rebello at the INIFD convocation. De Sousa, who the crowd learnt is a mother of three, shared her experience playing  Shah Rukh’s co-star in her upcoming Bollywood debut Fan.
