With Diwali just days away, the city finds itself buzzing with a vibe that only this time of the year can bring. Hampers are exchanged and diets thrown to the wind, as everyone indulges themselves in one form or another. It was an evening of music and masti at the Taj Coromandel, put together by the ladies of the E Club. Vimmi Deepak, Sudha Gupta and Nidhi Goenka, who were responsible for organising the show, made sure it had a little bit of everything — a fashion show with jewellery by Jaipur Gems and Amethyst, an art installation by Mandira Bansal and performances by Bhoomi Trivedi and Toshi, from Indian Idol and Voice of India. It was one of those evenings where the crowd barely had time to think. The singers really kept the momentum going and the audience was more than receptive, getting out of their seats and dancing to the beats of the dholak.
We also saw the Globus Style Awards 2013, another event that Chennai has come to look forward to. The awards that so far have been about the city’s style icons, this year wasn’t just about people, but included places as well. Categories from the basic (most stylish singer) to the more unusual (most stylish doctor) were given out. While the former went to singers Karthik and Shakti Sri Gopalan, the latter went to Dr Vijaylakshmi Acharya. Some of the awardees seemed quite amused at being chosen, while others made heartfelt speeches crediting their better halves for their impeccable taste. Globus took the opportunity to showcase their Autumn Winter collection which saw everything from fusion wear to the many avatars of the little black dress.
Winding up the week was the launch of the fourth outlet of the Bounce Style Lounge inaugurated by Kamal Hassan and Gautami. The salon chain, which was launched by Vikram Mohan way back in 2004, is responsible for taking hairstyling in Chennai to a whole new level. Following the formal launch was some light music and a performance by the Band Bank Live, the reigning MTV Ultimate DJ champions. On that note here’s hoping the music, fun and laughter continue and here’s wishing everyone a season filled with light and love. Have a safe and happy Diwali.
