The Macan R4 is out and it’s the cheapest variant of the SUV yet
This one’s for all the Porsche fans out there—especially in crowded cities and on a ‘budget’. The coming of the Porsche Macan signified the German sportscar manufacture’s foray into the constantly flourishing compact luxury SUV space, but then the price tag northward of `1 crore meant that it was accessible to only a select few. Well, Porsche has now launched the Macan R4 which is being hailed as the most ‘affordable’ variant of all Macan—the S Diesel, Turbo and Turbo with the performance package being the other three on sale in India. Now, ‘budget’ and ‘accessible’ or ‘affordable’ are all relative terms, but the `76.84 lakh (ex-showroom) price tag does bring it awfully close to the Jaguar F-Pace, doesn’t it?
Under that very illustrious Porsche bodywork is a 1,984cc, inline 4-cylinder petrol engine that is good for 252 PS of power (5,000-6,800rpm) and a whopping 370Nm of torque that peaks as low as 1,600rpm and stays there till 4,500rpm. This, and the fact that it is coupled to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, means that it is perfect for urban use. The Porsche Macan R4 is claimed to be able to reach a top speed of 229kmph and sprint to 100kmph in just 6.7 seconds. Not bad for an inline-4, isn’t it? Of course, it has all the bells and whistles and Porsche is offering the car with tons of customisation options as well. So if you’ve got that kind of a ‘budget’, what are you waiting for?
