Yami Gautam looks forward to entering the Rs.100 crore club with Action Jackson, also starring Ajay Devgn
After being part of two sweet rom-coms—Vicky Donor which was a runaway hit and Total Siyappa—which did moderately, Yami Gautam is all set to try something different with Action Jackson. Directed by Prabhu Deva, starring Sonakshi Sinha and Ajay Devgn, the film is expected to be a mass entertainer and be part of the `100 crore club like Deva’s previous offerings in Bollywood. Gautam, 25, has an impressive CV with some experience in television (Chand Ke Paar Chalo), followed by movies in the South like Ullasa Utsaha in Kannada, Nuvvila in Telugu, Hero in Malayalam and Gouravam in Tamil. Like the Bollywood princess, Kangna Ranaut, she hails from Himachal Pradesh. Looking forward to movies with Varun Dhawan(Badlapur) and Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum with Jai, (in which she plays a shop girl) she talks about life in Mumbai and the crossover to commercial cinema.
“It’s been a good experience and has been different from what I had done. It is not every day that you get to work with Prabhu Deva and Ajay Devgn,” begins the actress. After realistic films, we wonder if the mass entertainer Action Jackson, appealed to her sensibilities. “I don’t want to be typecast doing just a particular kind of film. While Action Jackson is an action entertainer, my next, Badlapur is different and real,” she says. Working with Devgn has been enjoyable for the star struck actress. “We had a good rapport throughout the film. He keeps to himself and is quiet. The first scene I did with him was an action sequence,” recalls Gautam. As for her role in Badlapur, she plays Nisha, Dhawan’s better half. The film is a thriller and drama. “It is based on a real story. Varun plays Raghu and the trailer will be out on December 2, coinciding with my film, Action Jackson,” she shares. Also on her plate is a two-film contract with T series— an untitled film by Divya Khosla and Pulkit Samrat and another film with Vivek Agnihotri.
Gautam has a long wish-list of directors she will like to work with, starting with Imtiaz Ali, Rajkumar Hirani and Vishal Bhardwaj. The eight-movie old actress also wants to try different genres, particularly period drama by Ashutosh Gowariker. IfAction Jackson succeeds as expected, it will be Gautam’s first film to make a huge box office impact. “I don’t like working with any pressure. Having said that, it would be great if this one turns out to be a massive hit,” she concludes, fingers crossed.
Action Jackson is scheduled to release on December 2.
