Three German contenders of the classic American muscle car, the Mustang
Overseas, there are many American rivals to contest the galloping pony—the likes of the Chevrolet Camaro and the Dodge Challenger. But in India, the challengers are of the Deutsche persuasion.
Audi TT Coupe
The TT captures the athletic, lithe feel of a muscle car, with all the trappings associated with the four-ringed cars—a 2.0-litre quattro (4×4) engine, 230hp on tap, six seconds to 100 kmph from standstill and Audi’s signature Matrix LED headlamps. The car is also loaded with technology like the fully digital 12.3 inch instrument panel, a multi-function steering wheel, and voice-controlled functions with microphones integrated into the seat belt. `63.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai). This two-seater roadster comes powered by a 3.0-litre petrol engine mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission that churns out 302hp. Unlike the 4×4 Audi above, this one’s just a rear-wheel drive. Its massive draw is that it can switch from a hard-top coupe to an open-top at the touch of a button, even when the vehicle is cruising at speeds up to 40 kmph. Rs 76.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai). Mercedes CLA 45 AMG
Mercedes-Benz’s high performance division, AMG, has done extensive work on the CLA—from the aggressive body styling to the five-spoke alloys. It delivers 360hp from the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine. Equipment, too, is impressive, with Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system, COMAND navigation system and a seven-speed sport transmission. `69.71 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai).
