Girl power and lots of ‘bling’ was what it was about this week, as we sipped on cocktails and picked out our favourite pieces of jewellery.  The chock-a-block weekend began at The Folly, at Amethyst, with the launch of Isha Nagappan’s book, Just Another Teenage Girl. What was most impressive about the young author, besides the obvious fact that she’s only 16, was her sense of self awareness as she took the microphone and explained to a packed house her thought process while writing her second book. Talk about making the rest of us feel like underachievers. Doing the honours and officially releasing the book was actor Gautami, who also announced the launch of her foundation, Life Again.
I grabbed a copy and headed to my next stop for the evening, which most conveniently turned out to be right upstairs. Amethyst introduced Indo-Parisian label, Peachoo, to the city, with a mini fashion showcase styled by Shabri Roberson. I tried to squeeze my way through the group of ladies that had gathered, and a party that was already in full swing, thanks in part I’m sure, to the rather stiff peach martinis that were doing the rounds. A select group of ladies modelled the collection that included crop tops, saris and palazzos that exuded understated glamour.
And just when I thought it’s been over two weeks since I’ve mentioned Kajal Aggarwal or Taapsee Pannu— the starlets of choice these days— up pops the latter at Mehta Jewellers on Friday, at an event to announce their association with Forevermark. The actor was all smiles, and who wouldn’t be, wearing an elegant diamond set, ‘keeping things simple’.
This turned out to be an appetiser to the main course, as Saturday saw NAC Jellewers launch Forevermark diamonds, specifically their Fabula collection, pieces of which have been spotted on this year’s Oscar red carpet. The exclusive evening for the members of the Duchess Club at Savera Hotel saw everything from diamond-encrusted chokers to elaborate headpieces. Making it a complete show were performances by singers Aishvarrya and Abhijit Dubey, standup by Evam’s Bhargav Ramakrishnan and a quick presentation by Sachin Jain, the MD of Forevermark Diamonds. Ending the show, also decked in diamonds, were Sujata Mundhra, owner of Backstage Events, and Nina Reddy, joint managing director of Savera.
