Choose from a mix of old and new clothes, home décor and more at Sunday’s yard sale
After the success of Sale A-Bration with the High Kicks ensemble last September, Jaishri Rao, owner of the salon Jaishri Premium Rejuvenation, is back with a new yard sale, called the Mandavelli Market. “I’m being selfish actually; I do it for myself. I love how everyone comes together and shares what they have to offer. I also find the concept fun and it’s an evening well spent,” says the hairstylist. The event will see 15 stalls housing diverse products ranging from fashion accessories to home décor to terracotta and pet portraits. Also, Sale A-Bration saw only used articles, but this time she’s letting small scale entrepreneurs showcase their products, too. Expect fabric-related items from Vandana Murali, home made sweets from Sweet Cabin and silk saris from Vastrakala.
Silk and cupcakes
Meanwhile, Nimi Kumar, previously the owner of Mish Mash, has a new brand called This and That. Her line will include block printed kurtas and hand painted silk tops (Rs 500 onwards). Neela Krishnamurti, who used to make wedding apparel, and now owns a film company called Madras House, will retail cushions made from brocade silk, cotton and tussar (Rs 350 onwards). Meanwhile, Sunita Palam, from Palam Silk Sarees, paints portraits of pets as well as families in acrylic, and is strongly inspired by Fauvism (underlined by bold colours and expressive brushwork). When tired of shopping, sample the desserts from home baker Vijyamala Palaniswamy. She will bring her fast-moving brownie cheesecakes (Rs 60) and red velvet cupcakes.
