The courtroom drama-horror film is loosely based on the story of Anneliese Michel, who underwent exorcism in 1975 and died the next year due to lack of medical care. In the movie, after Emily Rose (Carpenter) dies, everyone blames Father Moore (Wilkinson) who performed the exorcism.
Spider-Man 2 (Action/Adventure), Sony Pix, 9 pm
Cast: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Alfred Molina
Years of juggling college, his job as a photographer at the Daily Bugle and his secret life as Spider-Man is getting to Peter Parker (Maguire). His girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson (Dunst), gets engaged to someone else and his friend Harry accuses him of supporting Spider-Man—who he blames for his father’s death. Fed up, Parker abandons his secret identity and tries to lead a normal life. But when a failed experiment transforms Dr Otto Octavius (Molina) into villain Doctor Octopus Z, only Spider-Man can save the day. Maguire perfomed the stunt scene, where Parker flips over an oncoming car, himself.
The Notebook (Romance),
Romedy Now, 9 pm
Cast: Gena Rowlands, James Garner, Rachel McAdams
It tells the story of Allie Hamilton (McAdams) and Noah Calhoun (Gosling) who meet at a carnival and fall in love. But they part ways when Hamilton’s father doesn’t approve of Calhoun. The Hamiltons move to New York and though Calhoun writes 365 letters, her mother doesn’t give them to her. Meanwhile, Hamilton gets engaged to a soldier. But when she hears that Calhoun has completed the dream house they had planned together, she visits him, only to find out that they still have feelings for each other. Before the shoot started, Ryan Gosling lived in Charleston, South Carolina, to get into the role. For two months, he rowed the Ashley River and built furniture.
He is arrested and trial begins with Erin Bruner (Laura Linney) representing the priest. During the trial, Bruner experiences supernatural events—like waking up at 3 am and smelling something burning—which both the priest and Rose had experienced. The dorm scene where Rose bends backwards was performed by Carpenter herself. She wore a harness to make the effect more ‘inhuman’.
