Sign up for scenic bicycle trips with the Cycling Yogis, beginning with their heritage ride in April
Last seen on a trip to Pondicherry to celebrate Republic Day (January 26), the group known as the Cycling Yogis has been organising heritage rides for the past four years. As they prepare for their upcoming World Heritage Day (April 18) ride to DakshinaChitra on April 19, we take a quick look at their schedule for the year, so you can block your dates.
World Heritage Day ride: Starting from Santhome High Road at 5 am, this ride will cross Adyar and head towards the Buckingham Canal near Kovalam before reaching the destination, DakshinaChitra. Besides the tour of the heritage museum, the group will also stop briefly at Muttukadu for a quick brief on the heritage of the canal.
Madras Week ride: Taking place in August, the third ride of the Cycling Yogis hopes to follow the approximately 72-km course of the Cooum from Napier Bridge to Thakkolam, where it is believed to have originated.
World Heritage Week clean up: This event in November also lets you contribute to a social cause. While the Cycling Yogis are yet to finalise where they will be organising the clean up, participants will assemble at a common point and ride to the venue.
All rides with Cycling Yogis are free. Details: facebook.com/groups/cyclingyogis/
