    The second edition of the Chennai International Short Film Festival is underway and here are festival director, Srinivasa Santhanam’s, must- watch recommendations: The first is Silent Tears, about a man living with his blind daughter during the last stages of the civil war in Sri Lanka. The second film, on domestic abuse, is called The Desperate. There are also German and Hungarian films to look forward to. At the Russian Centre for Science and Culture, till February 22.     La-JalousieFrench frame
    Love, betrayal, politics, theatre and drama. Catch all this and more at the French Film Festival. The six films are: Attila Marcel, about an unsatisfied musician, 2 Automnes  3 Hivers, a love triangle, La Bataille de Solferino, about elections, Grand Central, on environmental hazards, La Jalousie, about theatre artistes and, finally, Girafada, about a child and his relationship with giraffes in a zoo.     Look out for the German film, Finsterworld, this week. Directed by Frauke Finsterwalder, the drama is a surreal account based on 12 characters. The film shows how their lives become deeply interconnected and how they all, secretly, have an ominious dark side. Organised by the Goethe Institut, with the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation and Madras Film society, the screening is at Goethe Institut, on February 26, 6.30 pm onwards. Details: 28331314
